Equine Facilitated Wellness

sshot-9

Equine Facilitated Wellness (EFW) is an emerging field where people partner with horses with the goal of increasing one’s sense of self, addressing personal issues, personal development, and for healing.

Horses have shown us they have an amazing ability to act as partners, teachers, and as healers should we take the time and effort to listen and to learn from them.  Living in the present, with no hidden agenda, no judgments and no preconceived notions and with having to communicate solely in a non verbal manner, they are wonderful beings to partner with in hopes of helping others heal, grow and develop.  Horses have shown to be able to assist people with anxiety, depression, grief and loss struggles, trust issues and many other social/emotional challenges many of us are faced with in our lifetime.  Through them, we can learn many things including how to communicate more effectively, increase leadership and teamwork abilities, and to problem solve more effectively.  On an emotional level, they can help increase our sense of empathy and compassion for others, build relationships, increase trust, confidence and accountability.  Because they are “mirror images” of our current state of being, we can begin to find our true sense of self: who we are and why we are the way we are.  Once we discover some of these things, we find a huge opportunity for personal growth and even more, an opportunity to grow our relationships with others and change how we interpret and interact with the world around us.

EFW is also referred to As Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Equine Assisted Mental Health, & Equine Facilitated Counselling.  For more information visit Equine Facilitated Wellness  or check out the following presentation by Jules at Mount Royal University:
